Grub Control

There are 8 different white grubs that are commonly known to cause turfgrass plant damage. They include the Japanese beetle, May and June beetle, masked chafer, green June beetle, European chafer, Asiatic garden beetle, oriental beetle, and black turfgrass ataenius. They all do the most damage in their larval stage, although some adults can also cause damage.

Every Grub has its own Beetle:

The first to thing to remember about grubs is that every different type of beetle has its own grub, not just Japanese Beetles.  Each grub species matures at a different time of the year.  However, there is hope.

Bonide Grub Beater is ideal for controlling grubs when they emerge from the egg.  It is a season long grub control that acts as an insurance policy, protecting your turf in times of need.  The active ingredient will control the newly emerging grubs once they begin to feed.  These newly emerging grubs are the ones that devastate turf.  Nothing prevents grubs from hatching; control is achieved when the grub starts to feed on the roots of grass.

BONIDE ANNUAL GRUB BEATER          One annual application is all it takes to control grubs all season long.....”It’s that simple”! Also kills European Crane Fly larvae, mole crickets and other turf destroying insects. Apply any time, spring through fall.

Japanese beetles are concentrated mostly in the northeastern and Mid Atlantic states. The Japanese beetle larvae are the primary cause of turf damage. They feed on turfgrass roots, which causes yellowing and a wilting, thinning appearance to the plants. Turf that has been damaged can easily be rolled or lifted back from the soil because the grubs have eaten through the fibrous roots.  May and June beetles can be found all across the United States.  Animals that feed on grubs also cause damage as they pull up turf in search of grubs.
